SUMMARY:Lecture Series at Copper Fox Distillery
DESCRIPTION:Join Copper Fox Distillery on Wednesday\, June 28th\, from 6pm – 8pm and meet one of Virginia’s most successful Founding Fathers. Character actor James Cameron will portray John Rollison\, a free African American in 18th-century York County. \n  \nJohn Rollison was born in Yorktown in 1723 and started his career training under a Master Shoemaker. Rollison then went on to open his own shop\, and the store became a prominent business in the community. Rollison’s story presented by Cameron displays the leadership and persistence of Rollison to become a prominent businessman at a time when African Americans struggled to own property of their own. Through his acting\, Cameron provides a unique insight into the life and times of colonial Yorktown. During your experience\, Mr. Rollison will respond candidly\, spontaneously\, and with humor to your open questions. You’ll find him quite approachable and engaging. His answers will often surprise\, enlighten\, educate\, and entertain you. It’s a special event not to be missed! \n  \nJames Cameron has been acquainting and entertaining audiences throughout the country with the wit and wisdom of this Founding Father. He has performed as Mr. Rollison for The National Archives\, Library of Congress\, the Smithsonian\, Chrysler Museum\, and the Library of Virginia\, where John Rollison was named Patriot of Virginia. He is also the author of a 2011 book about Rollison\, “We Hold These Truths…A Conversation with John Rollison 1723-1780.” \nThe lectures are free and open to the public. \nSeating is first-come\, first-served.
